Congratulations to the 2018-2019 MSMS Select Chorus. Looking forward to working with everyone.

House Band has some spots for new members this year. If there is any student who plays piano, guitar, bass, or drums and is interested in auditioning, they should see Mr. Mullen ASAP.

AUDITIONS 2018-2019

Thank you for your interest in the MSMS Select Chorus! Auditions will be Wednesday, September 12th

A sign-up sheet is posted in the music area. Your audition will consist of 4 parts.

1. PITCH: You will sing “Happy Birthday” (Sing to anyone you want!) a capella. You may sing it any way that you like, including any vocal “stylings” you choose.

2. RHYTHM: I will chant some rhythm patterns, and you will chant them back. I am listening to see if you can keep a steady beat, and checking your musical memory.

3. TESTING YOUR “EAR”: Students in Select Chorus need to be able to hold their own part in challenging music. I will check your musical ear in a few ways.

4. MUSIC READING: I will check your ability to read music.

FAQ:

Q: I was in Select Chorus last year. Do I have to audition again?
A: Yes. ALL students need to audition for Select Chorus, even if you were in it last year.

Q: When does Select Chorus rehearse?
A: Students are pulled out of class for one one-hour rehearsal and one half hour lesson.

Q: Am I required to also be in Choral Union if I am in Select Chorus?
A: Yes, unless you are in another performing ensemble (Band or Orchestra).

Q: Can students be in both Band/Orchestra and Chorus?
A: Since Band and Choral Union meet at the same time, students must choose one or the other. Students can do Select Chorus and Band/Orchestra. Their primary Activity Block assignment will be Band/Orchestra, but they will rehearse with Choral Union the last Thursday of each month.

Q: What if I can’t read music? Can I still get in?
A: Yes! However, you will have to catch up once you get in by doing independent work at home with Mr. Mullen’s help.

Success at Great East!

On Friday, May 27th, two groups from the Music Department competed at the Great East music festival.  The Select Chorus and the Symphonic Band both received the coveted Platinum award, the highest possible distinction. 

After the competition, they all traveled to Canobie Lake Park, and despite fallacious reports of inclement weather, enjoyed an afternoon of fun in the sun! 

Spring Concert & Great East Info

Thurs. MAY 19th, 7 PM  SPRING CONCERT

*Dress: Band/Chorus T-shirt, nice looking jeans, comfortable shoes (sneakers ok)

*Arrive at 6:30. Concert Band goes to Cafeteria, Symphonic Band to Band Room, Choral Union and House Band to Chorus Room

*Concert will last about an hour     

FRI. MAY 27th    GREAT EAST MUSIC FESTIVAL/CANOBIE LAKE

*Students will wear their Band/Chorus t-shirts and pants or decent shorts (no

short shorts please) and any kind of comfortable footwear.

*All Students will eat at 6th grade lunch.

*After lunch report directly to music area.

*Bring $ for supper at the park.(They don’t allow food to be brought in).

*Keep in mind that any backpacks or purses will have to be left on the bus during

 the Music Festival. Once we get to the park they will either have to be left on the

 bus or you will have to carry it around all day.

*The bus will return to school (in the front) at approximately 9:00 pm

*Put this paper on the fridge for future reference  :)

Winter Concert Videos

The MSMS Winter Concert was a success! The Symphonic Band and Select Chorus collaborated on an epic "Battle Hymn of The Republic" and received a standing ovation from the audience!

Junior Districts 2016

On Saturday, January 31st, MSMS students traveled to Methuen to audition for the Junior District Band and Chorus. As usual, MSMS students performed very strongly, and the following students were accepted into the regional ensembles: Pihu Anand, TJ Brosnan, Paul Conti, Wataru Coram, Aurora Golden, Kristen Harder, Arya Nagraj, Caroline O'Callaghan, Maya Pandit, Nicole Perry, Niti Seereeram, Luis Villalta-Santana, and Jensine Wagner. Congratulations to all who auditioned and were accepted!

Casting Call: "MARY POPPINS" Looking For Jane and Michael

Select Chorus at Grandview Farm

On Wednesday, December 2nd, the MSMS Select Chorus performed a show at the Grandview Farm in Burlington. They sang several songs from their upcoming concert, and featured several students singing their favorite holiday songs solo. The audience, volunteers from the Burlington community, was very appreciative of our performance.
