MSMS PERFORMING GROUPS
INSTRUMENTAL

CONCERT BAND is made up of students grade 6-8 and rehearses twice weekly during Activity Block. Ms. Gendron directs the Concert Band.


SYMPHONIC BAND is made up of advanced players in grades 6-8 and also rehearses twice weekly during Activity Block. Students who are selected for Symphonic Band (by audition) will not be in Concert Band since they rehearse at the same time. Mrs. Medvitz will be directing this band. Audition material will be made available at the start of school.


STAGE BAND (Jazz Band) is a smaller group made up of advanced players of the following instrumentation: saxophone, trumpet, trombone, piano, bass, drums, guitar. Stage Band membership is by audition. Mrs. Medvitz will be directing this band. Audition material will be made available at the start of school.

CHORAL

CHORAL UNION is open to all students grades 6-8 and rehearses twice weekly during Activity Block. Choral Union sings primarily from various Pop genres of music (Rock, Folk, Blues, Gospel, Show Tunes), and is accompanied at concerts by the House Band. No previous experience necessary. 


SELECT CHORUS is made up of advanced singers in grades 6-8. Membership is by audition. The Select Chorus sings mostly a capella, covering such genres as classical, madrigals, motets, and Barbershoppe. 

OTHER GROUPS

HOUSE BAND is an instrumental ensemble that accompanies Choral Union, both at concerts, as well as assemblies.  The instrumentation can include keyboard, guitar, drums, percussion, bass, fiddle, accordion.  Several members write their own material. Membership is by audition.  Students wishing to be in the House Band should start off in The Minstrels. 

THE MINSTRELS is a cross-generational group of students, parents, and teachers that meets every Wednesday after school from 2-3.  There is a late bus for students. The Minstrels play fiddle tunes from the American and Irish repertoire. A new songs is learned each week.  Interested students who play fiddle, guitar, banjo, bass, piano, accordion, mandolin, or percussion should contact Mr. Mullen, or look on his website (www.mistermullen.com) for details.
