Welcome to the 2012-13 School year. There have been many changes in the Music Department. And wait till you see the new music rooms!!! Mr. Bolduc has moved to a new job as the Director of Music in Dedham and we wish him all the best! Ms. Medvitz will be the new MSMS Band Director and will conduct Symphonic Band, Stage Band, and teach brass and percussion lessons. Ms. Gendron (also at Francis Wyman) will be filling in for Ms. Donahue (Kerley) who is on maternity leave until January. Ms. Gendron will be conducting the Concert Band and teaching woodwind lessons. Thank you Ms. Gendron! Mr.Mullens is our new Choral Director and General Music teacher. He will be teaching grade 6 and 7 music classes and conducting Chorus/Select Chorus. Welcome Mr. Mullens!
Students who did not initially sign up for Band or Chorus but wish to join now should see Ms. Medvitz or Mr. Mullen. Please Note: Band and Chorus last until the beginning of May. In early May Band and Chorus students will have the opportunity to sign up for a different activity if desired.
MSMS Performing Group Descriptions:
Concert Band is made up of students grade 6-8 and rehearses twice weekly during Activity Block. Ms. Gendron will be directing this band until the return of Ms. Donahue, who is on maternity leave until January.
Symphonic Band is made up of advanced players in grades 6-8 and also rehearses twice weekly during Activity Block. Students who are selected for Symphonic Band (by audition) will not be in Concert Band since they rehearse at the same time. Ms. Medvitz will be directing this band. Audition material will be made available at the start of school.
Stage Band (Jazz Band) is a smaller group made up of advanced players of the following instrumentation: saxophone, trumpet, trombone, piano, bass, drums, guitar. Stage Band membership is by audition. Ms. Medvitz will be directing this band. Audition material will be made available at the start of school.
Choral Union is open to all students grades 6-8 and rehearses twice weekly during Activity Block. No previous chorus experience necessary.
Select Chorus is made up of advanced singers in grades 6-8. Membership is by audition. Mr. Mullen will provide details during Chorus.
